I am writing with a request to help a very special Northfield family, the Pennings. Sixteen year-old Jim Penning was recently diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Jim is a 3 sport athlete in swimming, golf and football. He is a member of All-State Choir, active in his church, and an all-around great kid.
He is also one of my son's best friends. Jim's immediate family consists of his dad Mark (currently in seminary school), mom Cathy (a teacher at Northfield Middle School) and sister Maren, a student at Luther College. The Pennings are blessed with a great deal of faith to see them through this, and are being supported by many people through prayer, donated meals, etc.
However, cancer treatment comes with many bills, not all of which are covered by insurance. There are not only medical bills, but gas for trips back & forth to Mayo Clinic, missed work for appointments, etc. This is where I'm hoping we can help. I will be participating in a 477 mile bike ride across Iowa the week of July 21-28.
I am hoping to raise funds for the Penning family by asking for pledges of so much per mile. For example, 5 cents per mile would be a donation of $23.85,
10 cents per mile $47.70, 50 cents per mile $238.50, etc. Donations of any amount are welcome! Please consider helping this wonderful family.
